It seems like the universe, akin to an overzealous grandmother who believes you can never have too many cookies, decided to go above and beyond. One minute, I was sitting in my cubicle, joyfully tackling my workload, and the next, I was being ushered into a plush corner office with a view, a nameplate that read "Director," and a bewildering array of responsibilities that had my head spinning faster than a carousel on steroids. Talk about an overreaction!
At first, I was elated. I mean, who wouldn't be? It was like winning the career lottery overnight. My wish was granted, and then some. But then, just as I was settling into the job and slowly finding my bearings, the universe, in its infinite wisdom, decided to toss another curveball my way. Suddenly, I was asked to helm a brand new, high-stakes project.
It was like ordering a cheeseburger and being served a gourmet five-course meal. Sure, it's a nice surprise, but what do you do with all that fancy silverware?
My mind raced with thoughts. Was this another divine prank by the universe? Was I on the cosmic version of a hidden camera show? “Will they take away everything if I mess up this project? Am I destined to go from corner office to janitor closet?”
Suddenly, the vision of me tripping on a red carpet at the annual company gala, whilst holding the 'Employee of the Year' award, seemed all too real.
Still, in the face of such panic, humor remained my go-to coping mechanism. After all, when life throws you in the deep end, the best thing to do is put on your clown nose and try to float.
In the grand scheme of things, maybe the universe wasn't messing with me. Perhaps it was just pushing me out of my comfort zone, challenging me to rise to the occasion. It was saying, "Hey, I trust you with this. Now it's time for you to trust yourself."
So, here's to trusting oneself and the universe's absurd sense of humor. And if you see me tripping on the red carpet, just remember: I've got this (probably).
