Everyone has their own way of coping with life’s never-ending chaos. Some run marathons (why?), some bake enough bread to feed a small village, and others take up knitting as if they’re single-handedly preparing for winter in Westeros. Me? I take the most efficient, doctor-approved, and budget-friendly route: I sleep.
That’s right. While others meditate or journal their way to self-improvement, I curl up like a human burrito and drift off to Dreamland, where bills don’t exist, responsibilities are a myth, and the biggest decision I have to make is whether to have superpowers or be royalty. (Spoiler alert: I always choose both.)
I get why Sleeping Beauty took a 100-year nap. She skipped all the drama, didn’t have to answer a single email, and still landed a prince at the end. And while my sleeping habits don’t come with a fairytale romance, they do grant me a temporary escape from the reality that is… too much.
But let’s get one thing straight—I don’t just “go to bed.” Oh no, I prepare for my grand escape like it’s an Olympic event. Lavender-scented sheets? Check. Noise machine playing gentle rain even though it’s 35°C outside? Check. Eye mask embroidered with “Do Not Disturb, Main Character Resting”? Double check.
And then, just as I’m about to enter REM paradise, reality rudely intrudes with an alarm clock blaring like it’s collecting a personal vendetta against my happiness. Snooze button? That’s not a button. It’s an invitation for “just ten more minutes” of bliss, aka my daily act of rebellion against productivity.
Of course, I know sleep isn’t a solution—it’s just a pause button. No matter how many naps I take, those emails won’t answer themselves, and my problems won’t magically solve themselves overnight (tragic, really). But sometimes, a little escape is necessary. Sometimes, the best thing you can do is wrap yourself in a blanket, give your brain a break, and allow yourself a moment of peace before facing the chaos again.
So if you ever find me cocooned under my blankets looking suspiciously like I’ve retired from society, know that I’m not avoiding life—I'm recharging for it. And if life’s got you feeling overwhelmed, maybe take a nap too. The world will still be there when you wake up, but at least you’ll be slightly more prepared to deal with it. Or at the very least, well-rested enough to fake it.
